Lyrics

Two elders, they went walking all on a summer's day
Quoting Bible verses they went along their way
They walked along a wooded path among the shady trees
When "hush!" the first one whispers, what do you think he sees?
Susanna Jones the farmer's wife was wading in a stream
She wasn't wearin nothin but her peaches and cream
They hid among the bushes, their eyes were open wide
As they gazed upon the glory that was farmer Jones's bride
( they gazed upon the glory that was Farmer Jones's bride)

Susanna put her dress back on and headed for the barn
She was walking through a corn field, the weather, it was warm
When suddenly her way was blocked by two men dressed in black
She recognized the elders, Brother Jake, and Brother Jack
"Good afternoon Susanna, dear", the eldest elder spoke
In such a husky voice Susanna thought that he would choke
Then they tried to have their way with her, but she refused with scorn
They said she would regret it, and they left he in the corn
(They said she would regret it, and they left her in the corn)

Oh Susanna, Susanna don't you cry
Don't you be ashamed, there ain't no reason why
Reveal the truth, expose the lie

The wicked elders tried to work Susanna Jones's ruin
They told the neighbors lies about the things they saw her doin
They shocked the congregation, they slandered her good name
And nobody noticed that their stories weren't the same
They made their accusations, but the two did not agree
It took a while , but the truth came out eventually
Susanna Jones was innocent, she got her good name back
And we never seen no more of Brother Jake and Brother Jack
(well, I guess that was the end of Brother Jake and Brother Jack)
